God be with our mission team as they travel to Florida today for hurricane relief support. Blessings to them and to those they serve.
Sharing our light in a new direction… For over 15 years New Goshenhoppen has been blessed to participate in a ministry that has not only given our members the opportunity to put faith into practice, but has also provided, in a sense, a type of worship that brings so much fulfillment and joy. It all began on January 26, 2003, when one of Allentown’s oldest congregations, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, welcomed us to participate in their Neighborhood Breakfast. Your 2003 confirmation class was scheduled to travel to downtown Allentown in order to cook and serve a hot breakfast to upwards of 100 needy individuals. Unfortunately, winter intervened rendering conditions too hazardous for the 17-mile drive. Cancelling the very first planned trip was an inauspicious start to say the least. However, since that fateful day, you, your family, your friends and so many others, have served to make this ministry the incredible experience that it is. We have been to St. Paul’s 92 times, traveling over 3,000 miles with over 700 crew, to serve an estimated 7,500 plus meals! Parents and grandparents have brought children and grandchildren; so many members with family and friends in tow; Confirmation and Senior Youth Fellowship also serving faithfully. Many have contributed so much. Sadly, there’s some bad news: St. Paul’s has closed its doors after 256 years. This past September 1st, Life Church assumed ownership of the building at 38 S. 8th St. They are now in the process of completing major renovations and plan to add this location to their already six campuses throughout the Lehigh Valley. In the meantime, arrangements have been made with Zion UCC, 620 Hamilton St., Allentown, to serve those in need. We will continue with the scheduled trip this December 9th. The breakfast will remain at Zion through the end of April 2019, at which time all operations will cease. We will participate on January 27th, and March 3rd. Look for more information in the church social room as these dates approach. A huge thank you goes out to all who have so freely and happily given time and energy to this ministry. We have come to know each other better, and to admire each other more. We have reveled in the shared feelings of elation (and fatigue), that have come from the fruits of our labor. We pray that your time spent at St. Paul’s has been a blessing. We know it has been for us. May God bless you and keep you. -Greg Dickey -Denise Fox

The 2015 Confirmation class performed 'with class' at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church Community Breakfast last Sunday, October 26. We left our church at 6 AM for the 1/2 hour drive to 36 S 8th St, in Allentown. We prepped, cooked and served a hot breakfast to 80+ people. The menu consisted of scrambled eggs, sausage, potatoes, blueberry pancakes, fresh fruit, cereal, baked goods, juice, coffee and milk! All in all there were 14 youth and four parents working in perfect harmony to provide a breakfast that was above and beyond. Two of our talented musicians even played piano throughout the entire breakfast! Special thanks to Shannan Bieler, Cheryl Cressman, Scott Dickson and Doug Harnish for driving & helping out. And to the class: Dalton, Danielle, Nick, Kate, Matt, Meghan, Chris, Devon, Livy, Nik, Cat, Quinton, Dylan and Macauley... Bravo!
Confirmation Class Trip to Allentown Breakfast Mission - helping to feed those in need
Here are some pictures from our Hurricane Sandy disaster relief trip to Bergen County, NJ. Our location, about 30 miles inland from the ocean, was inundated by a storm surge in which water levels rose 4-5 feet in under five minutes; 5000 houses were affected. We stayed at Rutherford Congregational Church, received orientation at First Presbyterian Church of Moonachie, and worked on five different houses in Little Ferry. Please note the "tote board" picture with the statistical information reflecting the sheer number of hours devoted and people served by these amazing folks in Bergen County. It has been estimated that well over one million dollars has been saved due to the work of volunteers under their coordination. Special thanks go out to our crew leaders at Habitat for Humanity. Your dedication and patience is an inspiration to us. This trip is the first of what we hope are many in the mission partnership between New Goshenhoppen and Pennsburg UCC. With blessings, Rev Michael Jones, Rev Becca Stephens, Ed George, Bill Kruz, Dick Kruz, Sue Schmoyer, Gene Schmoyer, Marlene Gehman, Bill Freas, Greg Dickey
Bergen County, NJ We arrived last night safe and sound at our home for the week: Rutherford Congregational Church, in the shadow of New York City. We received our orientation this morning from Marisa Santiago, volunteer manager for a local group called VOAD (Voluntary Organization Against Disastors), and were then sent on our way to the nearby town of Little Ferry, to meet our crew leaders from Habitat for Humanity. We were split into three groups, with Ed and his friends, Bill and Dick, assigned to complete finish work at one site; Pastor Becca, Marlene, Gene and Sue were off to complete painting at another; and Pastor Michael, Bill (from Pennsburg UCC) and myself at yet another site laying flooring. Our friends at Habitat paid for our lunch today at a great Italian deli, and will do so tomorrow, Thursday and Friday! On Wednesday we will work with VOAD completing painting tasks. We're a bit tired, but that's just our bodies. Our spirits are sky high and we're ready and eager to meet the challenge that tomorrow will bring. More later. -Greg
